We would like to emphasise the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle in order to remain in good health - remember, prevention is better than cure!
General Health Checks - We like to see all new patients for a health check on joining the Practice. However, all patients are welcome to have a health screening check with our Practice Nurse, especially if they have not been seen at the Surgery over the last 3 years.
Patients aged 75 and over - We invite all these patients to make an appointment with the Practice Nurse once a year for a health check. This can be carried out in the Surgery or at home home if your medical condition necessitates.
Pre-Natal and Maternity Care - It may be helpful to discuss any health problems you have with your Doctor before becoming pregnant. At this stage we recommend that every woman be screened for Rubella (German Measles) and start taking folic acid (to reduce the incidence of spina bifida). We like to see ante-natal patients as early in pregnancy as possible. All Doctors provide maternity medical services, together with the Practice Midwife.
Family Planning - The Doctors are Family Planning trained and all hold the Certificate of Family Planning to give advice on all contraception methods. We provide emergency contraception if required (morning after pill). Patients may also discuss contraceptive methods with a Practice Nurse.
Cervical Smears and Well Woman Checks - We strongly advise the regular screening of women between the age of 25-65 for cervical cancer. A cervical smear test is usually carried out in one of our Well Woman clinics by a Practice Nurse. A general health and urine check is normally done at the same time. Patients may wish to discuss the menopause and hormone replacement therapy with a Practice Nurse or Doctor.
CHILD DEVELOPMENT CLINIC - This is held at the Surgery most Monday afternoons. Child Health checks are carried out at the following intervals:
Children's Immunisations - it is important that your child is fully protected by being immunised. If you have any worries about the safety or otherwise of the procedure then please arrange to discuss the problem with either the Health Visitor, Practice Nurse or Doctor.
Adult Immunisations - including Tetanus and Polio where appropriate.
Acupuncture Clinic - This treatment is available on the NHS after discussion with your Doctor; please enquire at Reception.
Asthma, Diabetes & Blood Pressure Clinics - These are run by the Practice Nurses in conjunction with the doctors and all patients with asthma, diabetes or high blood pressure should be seen regularly in one of these clinics.
Chiropody - We offer our own inhouse chiropody for patients who meet the designated criteria under the NHS. Private chiropody is also available. For further information, please enquire at Reception.
Flu Vaccination - We offer flu vaccinations to all our patients over 65, and also to other patients who are at risk from other chronic medical conditions.
Insurance, HGV & Other Medicals - These are not covered under the NHS and a fee is chargeable in line with British Medical Association recommendations. Please ask Reception for details and to book an appointment.
Lifestyle Clinic - includes advice on how to stop smoking, exercise, diet, stress and blood pressure. This is aimed at helping you reduce possible risk factors for heart disease and is run by the Health Visitors.
Minor Surgery - A variety of minor surgical procedures are offered by the Practice, after an assessment by your Doctor.
Nasendoscopy - With help from Patient donations we have purchased a Fibre-optic Laryngoscope, which enables Dr Primavesi, who has previous ENT training and qualifications, to examine the pharynx and vocal cords. This would normally only be carried out in Hospital
Physiotherapy - is available at the Surgery, after discussion with your Doctor or Health Visitor.
Psychology/Counselling - This is available only by referral from your Doctor and is by appointment with a trained psychologist or counsellor.
Sick Notes - For the first working week of illness, self-certification is advised using your employer's own form or an employee's Statement of Sickness (SC2) available from reception. The self-employed should use form SC1 also available from reception. If an employer wishes a certificate to be issued by a doctor for this period, a private sick note can be issued, for which a fee is payable.
Travel Clinic - Prior to travelling abroad, we recommend you book an appointment with a Practice Nurse, when she can advise you on all aspects of your health care whilst travelling abroad, and arrange to give you any vaccinations required. There will be a charge for some vaccinations.
Wart and Verrucae Clinics - are held on Friday afternoons whenever possible.
Yellow Fever Centre - As an approved centre we offer Yellow Fever vaccination to all those visiting at risk areas whether registered with this surgery or elsewhere. This service is not available on the NHS and there is a charge for the vaccination.
